Culture

Culture (from the Latin colere) can be seen, in its widest sense, as everything man has created - and Provence has a profusion of it! The Rhone valley has seen intensive human occupation for more than 2000 years, and each period has left its marks, which we now come to admire.
There is thus much more to Provence than just lavender flowers and chirping cicades under a blue sky. Follow us to Orange, with its Roman amphitheatre and its singular Roman triumphal arch. And in the summer the famous Chorégies d'Orange stage live operas in the amphitheatre.
The Pont du Gard, generally known, is 30 km away and is wihtin easy reach on the way to Nimes. Uzès with its extraordinary beautiful market in the style of the Provence invites to experience it as well as Arles with its famous buildings and its "Café de nuit", which was painted by Vincent van Gogh.
